Spring Forward

I think today is the day of the year that I miss Phoenix the most. Why do we still do this? I never thought it was strange until I moved to Phoenix, and I realized how weird the rest (almost) of the country is. If your blanket is not as long as you want it, would you cut one end off and sew it on to the other side? Maybe this is so frustraing to me because I have a hard time waking up in the morning.

On another note, I went to Disney today with some of Lauren's family on her Mom's side. I know her Dad's side of the family pretty well, so this was a good chance to get to know the other side. I had a lot of fun. It has been years since I have been to the Magic Kingdom. It is definitely a lot of fun to watch a three year old experience Disney for the first time, but it is definitely not a park geared to adults. I did have fun though, don't get me wrong. I just don't see myself going there over the others any time soon. We got some video that I will edit and post at some point, so stay tuned. (Like anyone is actually reading this)

Well, off to bed. Excited for the "Go-Live" tomorrow. I imagine I will have a blog explaining that tomorrow night. Be good!

What Does Plain Mean?

I met Patty and Brian for lunch at Panera today and had a weird thing happen. I eat there fairly often with them and I usually get the Italian Combo, plain add mustard. The last time I ordered that they put banana peppers on the sandwich. I said, "I'm sorry, but I wanted this plain." The girl making the sandwich said, "That is plain." I looked again and asked why there were peppers on it. "That's how they come, even when they are plain." I asked politely to have it made without peppers and went on with my life. Today when I ordered I told the cashier that same story and asked if they could please make it plain, no peppers. She said , no problem, plain is plain. I thanked her and waited for my sandwich. Which of course, had peppers on it. Am I going crazy? Does plain mean something different than it did a few weeks ago? How can anyone think that it's okay to put peppers on something that was ordered plain? Now I feel challenged to continue ordering that sandwich plain until I actually get a plain one.

New Chapter

I am going to try and start a new chapter in my blogging life. I went back and read some of my old blogs and realized that I was blogging from a narcissistic place, looking for comments and interaction. Don't get me wrong, I still like attention. Now, I am going to just blog and if people read it, great. If not, so what. I haven't really decided what direction my blog will go yet, but that's okay too. Probably some life stuff. Maybe some reviews. Maybe some fiction. Who knows where this will end up. If you read it, I hope you like it. Thats all for now. Be good!

I Suck at Blogging

I'm not even going to apologize anymore for being lazy about blogging. I blog when I want and that's that.
A lot has happened since my last blog, but I am writing this to talk about life right now, and it is AWESOME!
Lauren and I have been together for just over 6 months now and she is amazing. She makes me incredibly happy. We have been able to manage long distance for the whole relationship so far, but we are looking forward to being closer to each other sooner rather than later. We have crammed a lot in to these past six months; she visited me in Tampa, I visited her in Hammond, we went to a wedding, we went to Epcot, we saw the symphony, we visited Charlotte together, with all kinds of other fun things in between. I am looking forward to doing all kinds of things together. We will be seeing Phantom of the Opera on Valentine's Day, and then traveling to New York at the end of the month. And who knows what after that?
Work has been interesting the past few months, but starting this Wednesday I will have a new role hear at Southwest Florida College. I have been offered the position of "Re-entry Specialist." I will basically be in charge of getting students that have withdrawn to return to school. It will be a challenging job, but I am excited because it's a whole new department I will be working for. This job falls under the Registrar's department rather than the Admissions, so I will have a new boss. They have even done something for me that I have never seen done for anyone that gets a new position here. They are giving me this position on a probationary basis, meaning if I don't succeed, rather than firing me I can get my Admissions Coordinator position back. But I will succeed, so that is not an issue.
Most of you already know that over the summer, Mama was diagnosed with breast cancer. It has been a battle, but she is done with chemo, and recently started her radiation treatments. I think she has about 5 or 6 more weeks of radiation, and then she should be done completely.
Hope this post finds everyone well.
Matt

Look Who's Blogging!

It is a bit silly at this point to apologize and try and show contrtion for not blogging for 5 months, so I will just say this: If you really want to know what's going on in my life, ask me. :)

Anyways, I will spare you all a list of things that have been happening, becauase that would make this the longest blog ever. I am only blogging to say one thing.

I miss CITD. I miss the feeling I would get when I would sit alone in the sanctuary and listen to Mike and Emily and the gang warming up. I miss Xbox Fridays. I miss lunch after second service. I miss feeling connected. Not only connected to God, but connected to a "family" of people that I could lean on when needed and would be able to lean on me if needed. It is partly my fault for not taking a more active role in searching out a new church, but honestly, I don't want a new church. I want what I already had. I know that even if I came back tomorrow things have changed at CITD, but I'm okay with that.

Sorry for the downer of a post. I just felt I needed to say this. Maybe my next post will be more chipper. (And sooner)

Goings On.

Well, looks like I have been slacking again keeping this updated. There has been a lot going on, so I will try to let you know what has happened recently.

Work:
I have been incredibly busy at work these past few months. I really enjoy my job and not to toot my own horn, but I am pretty good at what I do. I also have a lot of opportunity for advancement. I have been approached in the past couple of weeks about two different positions. The first one is Coordinator for Student Affairs. I would be in charge of organizing all the events we have on and off campus for the students. I would handle all the planning for graduation, plus a whole lot more. I was really starting to get interested in that position until my direct supervisor, the Director of Admissions, did my yearly review and went over it with me. His plan for me is to become the Associate Director of Admissions within the next year! Some of you probably don't realize this, but this is huge! The next step from that is a Directorship of some sort whether it be in Admissions or some related area. Sorry to all my peeps in Phoenix, but it is pretty definite I'm not coming back to live out there anytime soon.

Life:
Not much new in my life outside of work. I've had a couple of fun nights hanging with James and company. We had a cool "Night of Fire" at his house a few weeks ago that was fun. I played Rockband for the first time with people and discovered that it is a lot of fun. James and Brian came over one Saturday and we went and hung out at Channelside and Ybor. That was a fun night. I'm going camping this weekend, and that will be super fun. I'll try to remember to blog about it next week.

Other than that, life is moving right along. I will try and be more diligent, but don't get your hopes up. Peace!
